The board licenses and regulates roughly 3,200 individual tax practitioners and more than 1,200 tax preparation businesses. They have seven volunteer members who serve staggered three-year terms. Six members are licensed tax consultants, and the seventh member represents the general public. Two full-time staff administer day-to-day operations.​
