The Legislature passed Senate Bill 7 in 2013 to create the council as a public corporation, and management of the fair and exposition center was transferred to this new entity. The council oversees the Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center to showcase Oregon products and people; to educate and communicate to the citizens of Oregon about the needs, issues and context of the key industries of the state with emphasis on agriculture, forestry, technology and manufacturing; and to create an event that celebrates all of Oregon and Oregonians in an atmosphere of responsible community involvement and citizenship. The exposition center hosts the annual state fair at the end of August through Labor Day and provides a venue for meetings, concerts, trade shows and other events the rest of the year from its location in Salem.
