The Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) administers retirement benefits for Oregon’s state, local government and school district employees. PERS serves more than 241,000 active/inactive members, 163,000 benefit recipients, and about employers. The system pays approximately $4.6 billion in benefits annually; with an economic impact of $4.89 billion to Oregon. Those in-state payments support an estimated 30,818 jobs in Oregon. Investment income provided 73.4% of total PERS revenue since 1970, with member contributions providing 4.0%, and employer contributions providing 22.7%. Just over 28% of PERS members are currently eligible to retire.
