The Oregon Board of Optometry was enacted in 1905 to protect Oregonians from the dangers of unqualified and improper practice of optometry. The board is comprised of five governor-appointed members; four are licensed optometrists and one is a public member. Members serve three-year terms and oversee the agency and its functions. The board is staffed by two full-time staff who assist board members in enforcing the agency’s laws and rules. There are currently about 1,250 active and inactive licensed optometrists in Oregon. Oregonians can submit complaints to the board for review if they believe an optometrist has breached Oregon law or given an improper standard of care.
