(Oregon State Archives Photo) The functions of the board date back to 1951 when the Legislature adopted a comprehensive bill for the Oregon State Board of Examiners, which was empowered to regulate conduct for massage establishments, issue licenses, refuse, revoke or suspend licenses and establish requirements for massage schools. In 1975, Senate Bill 390 passed, and the administration for licensing massage therapists changed to the State Board of Massage Therapists. The mission of the board is to protect the public by regulating and monitoring the practice of massage therapy in Oregon.
