Present Duties

The Oregon Department of Emergency Management (OEM) uses a statewide, whole community, partner-inclusive approach to protect, mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies or disasters regardless of cause. OEM supports state agency and local and tribal governments’ efforts to reduce disaster risk and manage the consequences of emergencies and disasters.  OEM provides resources, including grant funding, to local and tribal governments, a network of regional emergency management coordinators, the state’s search and rescue program and the state’s 9-1-1 Program. The Oregon Homeland Security Council, Oregon Emergency Preparedness Advisory Council, Oregon Local Government Emergency Management Advisory Council, and Oregon Seismic Safety Policy Advisory Commission are also under OEM’s purview or supported by OEM.  ​
