Numerous events helped to propel the woman suffrage movement forward over the decades. They inspired women around the country to take action in their own lives, even if only in small ways. The cumulative effect over time created a groundswell of support that opponents to woman suffrage could not resist. As a result, newly empowered women asserted themselves in other ways too, such as holding political offices and moving into male-dominated professions.
