Teacher Standards & Practices Commission

Present Duties

The commission advises the State Board of Education on licensure, education and performance of teachers and other matters on which the board requested assistance. It has full responsibility for educator licensure, educator licensure preparation programs and maintenance of professional standards of conduct to the commission. The commission processes approximately 20,000 licensure applications a year. The commission members are appointed to three-year terms by the governor and confirmed by the Senate.
