Present Duties

The division improves lifelong health for Oregonians by promoting health and preventing the leading causes of death, disease and injury in the state. The division assesses the public’s health through data collection and uses that information to develop policies and programs that support improved health outcomes. The division oversees health promotion and prevention activities, health care facility licensing, environmental health regulation, public health emergency preparedness, epidemiological outbreak investigations and the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory.

The division works with local health departments, tribes, community organizations, health care providers, coordinated care organizations and other partners. The Public Health Advisory Board and other advisory committees provide guidance to the division.​​
