Series documents the inventory of all Oregon state buildings by the Oregon State Planning Board with the cooperation of the federal Works Progress Administration. The purpose was to establish physical and financial data for legislators, planners, and administrators.

Information includes name of building, use, construction date, type, size, value, condition, and a narrative statement about working conditions and growth potential. The subjects include university buildings, armories, hospitals, the state penitentiary, and others.

The two volumes are identical copies.​

Topics include the reconstruction of the state capitol into an integrated building group, building construction in Oregon, and an inventory and assessment of needed improvements to all state owned buildings. Most of the records refer to the period from 1934 to 1938, however some research data dates to 1920.

Records also include maps, most of which document the various drainage basins in Oregon.

Topics include erosion, power generation, flood control, port improvement, federal construction and repair projects, irrigation, groundwater, stockwater, hydrological data collection, timber harvesting and mining in relation to water resources, municipal water supplies, and developed and undeveloped storage reservoirs. Most of the records refer to the period from 1934 to 1938, however, some of the comparative research information dates to 1878.

Topics include a wide range of Oregon State Planning Board activities since the WPA provided much of the staff necessary for completion of the research projects. Subjects about employment and migration, the Columbia River Gorge, the Bonneville Dam, housing, and land classification are included primarily from funding and manpower perspectives.
