Presented by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS)
The NASS Medallion Award was established by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) to provide individual Secretaries of State with an opportunity to recognize individuals, groups, organizations, or businesses that have demonstrated outstanding service, leadership, and dedication to advancing the mission and goals of NASS within their state.
The award honors those who have made significant contributions in one or more of the following areas:
- Elections, with special emphasis on voter education, civic participation, and voter engagement
- Civic education, including the teaching, promotion, and study of civic knowledge and democratic participation.
- Service to state government, particularly work that supports or advances the responsibilities of the Office of the Secretary of State.
- Philanthropic commitment and community service, including individuals, businesses, or organizations whose contributions have significantly enhanced the quality of life in local community, region, or throughout the state.
Recipients of the NASS Medallion Award should reflect the mission, values, purposes, and objectives of NASS and exemplify the integrity, dignity, and public service ideals presented by Secretaries of State across the nation.
Eligibility Requirements
The nominee must be a resident of Oregon or an organization, business or group that operates within Oregon and serves Oregon communities. The nominee may be individual, group, organization, nonprofit entity, educational institution, business, or civic organization. The nominee must have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, achievement, or contributions in at least one of the following areas:
The nominee has promoted voter education, election administration awareness, voter registration, election security education, voter participation, or public confidence in elections.
The nominee has advanced civic learning, civic engagement, constitutional knowledge, democratic participation, or public understanding of government processes.
The nominee has contributed to improving government services, public administration, transparency, accessibility, records management, business services, or other functions associated with the Office of the Secretary of State.
The nominee has demonstrated a commitment to giving through charitable activities, volunteerism, financial support, or community leadership that has significantly improved the quality of life for individuals or communities within Oregon.
The nominee’s actions and accomplishments must reflect nonpartisan public service and uphold the integrity and mission of the Office of the Secretary of State.
Under no circumstances shall the NASS Medallion Award be presented for partisan or political purposes.
Under no circumstances shall the NASS Medallion Award be presented for personal, financial, or professional gain.
Who May Submit a Nomination?
A nomination for the NASS Medallion Award may be submitted by any individual, organization, business, educational institution, community leader, government official, or member of the public.
Self-nominations are permitted.
Evaluation Criteria
Nominees will be evaluated based on one or more of the following:
The nominee demonstrates initiative, vision, collaboration, and the ability to positively influence others.
The nominee has meaningful contributions that benefit the public and advance civic engagement, government effectiveness, or community well-being.
The nominee’s efforts have produced measurable or observable positive outcomes within a community, region, or statewide.
The nominee demonstrates sustained dedication to advancing civic, governmental, educational, or philanthropic goals.
