State Symbols

The Oregon Legislature designates state symbols (emblems), most of which are listed in Oregon Revised Statute 186. Some symbols, such as the state fossil Metasequoia, are unique to Oregon while others are shared with other states. For example, the Western Meadowlark, Oregon's state bird, is also recognized as the official state symbol by several other states. Even the iconic state animal, the beaver, is shared as a symbol with New York. Here are selected Oregon state symbols.
