The John Day River winds through north-central Oregon at a length of 284 miles. It’s the longest river flowing entirely in Oregon and the longest undammed river in our state. It is known as the Mah-Hah River by the Cayuse people. In 1988, Congress designated 147.5 miles of the river as Wild and Scenic for its recreational opportunities.
